Day #11 - KIPPERS (for July 16, 2010)

I don’t profess to know how Lynda’s mind works. So I have no explanation (or any apology) for Day #11’s prompt:  kippers. All I can say is “have fun with it.” I tried to!

KIPPERS FOR BREAKFAST?

On a trip once to Merry Old England,
a big English breakfast I ate.
Boiled egg with strong tea,
but no kippers for me,
though the hot, crispy rashers were great!

A lad so young out on his own
To market for his mum
Went to the fish monger’s stall
And stood there looking in

He looked with a serious face
A frown and wrinkled brow
Confusion showed in every part
His eyes growing wide

The fishmonger looked down at him
And said, Lad what you be?
Why stand you there with that look
No go, and leave me be.

The lad looked at the old man’s face
And stared at him hard and long
With a bow of his head his said quietly,
“my mum just wants some kippers, please.”
