PROMPT #02 - BRIDGE

BROKEN BRIDGE

Our bridge is broken.
Plank by plank, we built it,
and plank by plank, we brought it down.
Once, we could reach across
with outstretched hands
touching heart, mind and soul.
Now, we stay on our own side,
keeping our thoughts and needs
to ourselves,
without risk of tumbling
into the blackened hole of indifference.

The Bridge

A way to get from here to there
Over rivers, streams and bays
For cherished rides in the countryside
A bridge will get you there.

For teeth that gap due to a loss
Chewing of all hard foods
A dental device without a vice
A bridge will get you there.

The child in her, the mother in you
Distance can’t be counted in miles
The years that gap the thoughts of you
A bridge will get you there.

BRIDGE ACROSS THE AISLE
(One Can Hope)

They’re building a bridge.
Politics take a backseat
to find common ground.

Somewhere in a distant dream,
I thought I saw a bridge.
It started on a level plain
and headed for the ridge.
I didn’t notice any rise, and
lots of folks were walking.
They seemed to meet as strangers,
and now they all were talking.
Not sure where it would lead.
There was no need to bother.
The folks were happy just to be
so friendly with each other.
And up they climbed till out of sight.
All I saw when I looked up
was just a brilliant light.
